Finger painting fun

It was rainy and cold today so we did some finger painting. Instead of paint though we used chocolate pudding. Evan and Alexis were more into eating the paint than painting with it. Oh well, at least they had fun for a time and a yummy snack to boot.
Since Evan is getting bigger he was able to be drop cloth free. So far so good.

Alexis needed some prepping. We have these children paint covers that she got to wear. Thank goodness or it would be bath time. I think she enjoyed eating. What do you think?

Future makeup artist? I hope not. At least not with her current skill level. I just love her smiling face.

Camping fun

This last weekend Doug and the boys went on a father and son campout. They had lots of fun. They enjoyed the great outdoors except the bathroom facilities and now want to go camping with me. Don't get me wrong I would love to go camping except for the sleeping on the ground part. I'm not as young as I once was and I must admit I do love my creature comforts. Anyway, this isn't about me, but about them so enjoy their camping pictures.

This is Evan with his tent. Does he hope it will set up itself?

The Miller tent village. Everyone had their own tent to sleep in, but did Doug get to sleep by himself? Nope. Evan decided to join him.

Benjamin warming by the fire.

Benjamin eating the camping food. Hot dogs and S'mores - what could be better?

The woes of camping. Evan sat in his camping chair and leaped up pulling at/swiping his bum. What he found was this huge splinter that was in his chair and poked his bottom.

Out of the mouth of babes

Story set up: Justin is a four year old with dirtaphobia and Taunja is his cousin who was adopted from India so her skin tone is dark
Story:
Happy to be leaving the church meeting Justin asks Taunja to give him five which she does. Afterwards she asks him to give her five and Justin stops. He takes a good look at her hands and says "Your hands are dirty." Then his eyes move up to her face and he says "Your face is dirty too." He refuses to give her five on account of her "dirty"/dark skin. Taunja laughs. What can you do? Yes, this is a true story about my little adopted brother and our cousin. When Taunja told me the story I just busted up laughing. Out of the mouth of babes.

Teach them while they are young.

I just couldn't resist putting this picture up. I use flavored drink syrups and happened to use the rest of one bottle. Lex found the bottle and decided a drink was in order. Too cute for me not to share.

Marker Madness

"I wanted to be a clown" were the words out of Evan's mouth as he was found with marks all over his body and cloths. While cute in hindsight, the sight was not cute on first notice. This is what happens with unsupervised quiet time with older brother Christopher.

Here is the clown boy.

Sweet and Sour

Some may say Doug and I are horrible parents, but I disagree. We take care of our children's needs and play with them. Oh yes..... sometimes we have fun at their expense. I guess if you want to use that against us then it is your choice, but we don't. My sister gave us some Mexican sweet and sour/hot candy to try and we gave some to our children. Then we videoed their reactions. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. You other parents cannot tell me that you haven't enjoyed your child's reaction when they have tried something new and made the most horrid face. I want to put up the video for all to see but it is too big so until I figure out how to fix that problem here are the best sour faces I could cut out of the video. Here's to hoping you laugh.

Pucker UP!

Weekend of fun in the sun

We did so much this weekend and it was great. Friday we finally transplanted all our fruit trees from our small garden to their permanent home in the orchard. So glad that is over because some were very big and hard to move. Saturday I went to Newport to try my hand at a yard sale. We have so much stuff from the daycare that we use to have that we have no room in our shop and need to clean it out. The wind was blowing and made the temperature cool so I didn't even think about sunblock, but maybe I should have. Ya think?

Then there was working outside some more. Garden to till, lawn to mow, and all the other outside chores you can think of. The kids got a break and had a fun ride with dad.

We also all took a break and played football. Well just tossing the ball but it was just as fun or funner for us. Alexis loved to hold the ball and got real ticked when Doug tried to trade the big ball for the smaller one. She was not about to let sized dictate her life.

Finally Sunday came and we went to my parent's place to celebrate my brother's and sister's birthdays. No they are not on the same day, but close enough together that we celebrated them on the same day. That's our weekend in a nutshell.

Let there be Light!

We just got done with science fair season and Benjamin chose to do one this year. Here the students aren't made to do one, but can if they choose. He chose electricity more specifically if you can light a bulb using food.

First we chose the food to use.
Then we did some testing. And yes everything produced a current.
Then we made a lemon battery and tried to light a 3.5V LED bulb. Yes, it worked. The first picture is with light and the second is without. Hopefully you can see the difference. It was hard to get a good picture.
